It has been popular in America for decades, but has only been available in Germany for a few months: eyelash extensions. Goodbye, mascara!
Many women want curled eyelashes with lots of volume to give their eyes depth. Who wouldn’t want to charm someone with a skilful glance? Some women can bat their beautiful eyelashes, while others struggle with short, thin, straight or pale ones.
Eyelash extensions are supposed to make the dream of ‘voluminous eyelashes’ come true. But before you rush straight to the nearest beautician and have individual artificial eyelashes glued on, there are a few things you should be aware of. In my new magazine article, I explain what you should definitely bear in mind.
For many women, reaching for mascara is essential. They feel naked without mascara on their eyelashes. So is there no other option than to perform the same ritual in front of the bathroom mirror every morning? Permanent eyelash extensions are the magic word here. Many women hope that they will give them the break from mascara they desire without having to forego long, thick eyelashes. But are artificial eyelashes suitable for every woman? And what should you look out for?
The cost of eyelash extensions is around £100 to £250. This depends on the beautician and, in particular, on the technique you choose. The following methods are available:
Natural look: This technique is suitable for all women who prefer a natural look. They usually go through everyday life without make-up, but still want thicker, longer eyelashes to emphasise the eye area.
Mascara look: This method is suitable for women who want to stand out a little, but not too much. They usually leave the house with very little make-up, but always apply mascara to their eyelashes.
Diva look: With this technique, the eyelashes are made extremely long, extremely curved and super sexy. The treatment is therefore definitely suitable for all women who love a dramatic look.
Volume technique: This method is ideal for women with very fine eyelashes. Fine, artificial eyelashes are applied, with only a few individual volume lashes. This makes the extensions look full and three-dimensional.
Eyelash extensions last for about three weeks. After that, they should be refreshed. This means that you will incur regular costs. The amount depends on how often you go to the beautician. After two or three weeks, a touch-up is usually recommended, which is cheaper than a completely new eyelash extension. However, if you wait four weeks or longer, you will usually be charged for a new set. It is worth comparing prices – for example, on the internet – and also reading reviews from other customers.
My care tips for you:
You can also recognise a good and experienced beautician by the fact that they provide you with detailed information on how to care for your artificial eyelashes after the extension. Only with the right care can the eyelash extension last as long as possible.
The first 24 hours determine how long your eyelash extension will last. During this time, make sure that the eyelashes do not come into contact with water. Steam, heat and excessive sweating can also damage the eyelashes. Keep this in mind when holding a cup of steaming coffee under your nose or when cooking and looking into a pot. Avoid going to the sauna and doing strenuous sports on the first day.
Afterwards, there are a few general rules to follow. Avoid oily care products, as these will dissolve the adhesive. Do not use waterproof mascara. You should also not pull, pluck or rub your eyelashes. And eyelash curlers are a definite no-no. Always use lint-free cloths to remove make-up from your eyes and only rub gently.
By the way, you should also take care of your eyelashes when blow-drying your hair. Do not blow the warm air directly onto your eye area, as the heat will cause your eyelashes to lose their curl. Comb your eyelashes carefully with the eyelash comb that the beautician gave you during your first treatment. You can and should wash your eyelashes regularly.
Each natural eyelash has a natural growth cycle. Some eyelashes are already older at the time of treatment and will soon fall out. Others are just starting to grow. This is also the main reason for gaps in the eyelash extensions.

Would you like to be financially independent?
What you should know about the lifespan of your new eyelashes:
Week 1: Your eyelashes look fresh. You lose a few, but with the right care, this is not noticeable.
Week 2: New natural eyelashes grow and old ones fall out. The artificial ones become fewer and do not look quite as full.
Week 3: Gaps are now inevitable as older eyelashes and artificial ones continue to fall out gradually.
Week 4: By now, you should have your eyelashes refilled. However, this usually means a completely new set of eyelash extensions at full price.
My conclusion: Eyelash extensions can look breathtaking. They are time-consuming and quite expensive, but with the necessary cash, every woman can now have a stunning Marilyn Monroe look.
